My sister bought her first house in 2023. The seller's counter-contract had a clause that locked her fifteen-thousand-dollar earnest money in seventy-two hours — before her lender had even confirmed the loan. Her financing fell through on day five. She lost the deposit. Her agent shrugged.

Nobody pointed at that clause. Not her agent, not the title company, not the lender. It was on page seventeen, paragraph 8.c, in a sentence so dense she'd skipped over it twice. She still mentions it.

So I built FinePrint for her. And then for the friend who was about to do the same thing. And then for the FSBO seller in our neighborhood who was about to do it from the other side of the table.

The first version was a two-hundred-line Python script. The current version is a real product. The thing that hasn't changed: it's free for anyone signing a contract, and the engine is open source. We don't take a card on file. We don't have a Pro tier hiding under the analyzer. If we ever do, the free tier doesn't shrink — written down in the Terms and the Pricing page on the day it ships.

The mission is straightforward. Make sure nobody signs a four-hundred-thousand-dollar contract they haven't been allowed to understand. Make a sharp read of legal language cost less than a coffee, not fifteen-hundred dollars. Keep the core open so nobody — including us — can take it away.
